How many days are left in the year?
Find the number of calendar days between today and New Year's Day.
Counting the remaining days
Subtract today's date from January 1 of the following year. This usually excludes the current partial day and gives the number of midnights until the new year.
If you want to include today, add one. Always label the convention because inclusive and exclusive counts differ by a day.
Leap years change the total
Dates after February have a different day number in leap years because February contains an extra day. The remaining-day calculation itself still works when it uses real dates rather than a hard-coded total.
Turn the number into a plan
Separate the remainder into working days, weekends and fixed commitments. A smaller realistic pool is more useful than treating every remaining calendar day as fully available.
